You've Been Missing Greenland's Ski Season
Ski season is officially open in Greenland. In May. This photo from the upcoming January 2012 issue of Outside shows Johnny Collinson plunging off a 35-foot headwall of glacial ice on the outskirts of Kulusuk, Greenland. Hard to not appreciate the extreme amount of calculation needed by both photographer and skier, in order to land this shot.

Science Leap of Faith
Physicist Alan Lightman talks about the Multiverse Theory in the latest issue of “Harper’s.” Ironically, this hypothesis (that leaves God out of the equation) also requires faith. As Lightman writes: “we must to believe in what we cannot prove.”

Kyoto Story
Ai Tominaga, for Vogue’s Japan December issue, inhabits a Kyoto that could have been a product of Yasujiro Ozu’s psyque. Of course, Miles Aldridge had to make it über-voluptuous…and rather disquieting…

Not For Those Scared Of Heights
Sometimes I think about what you’re not seeing in a photo - for example, having driven Highway 1 through Big Sur, it seems to me like the photographer would have had to be standing on thin air or something to capture this. Either way, it would be a long fall. From Conde Nast Traveller.

When they say, “It’s just like riding a bike,” often referring to something being easy to figure out or pick up again, I don’t think they’re talking about the type of bike riding that goes on in Transworld Ride BMX.

Sometimes
Here in San Francisco it’s pretty cold for summer (as one may expect). I’m also not rich, and live in a cramped studio apartment in a crappy part of town. Sometimes it’s nice to take a look at Elle Decor and imagine the possibilities, though. (Other times, it’s just depressing.)
